Western trumps Orange County

The wins just keep piling up for the Western Albemarle volleyball team. The Warriors have made it through the first half their Jefferson District schedule with an unblemished record after deafting Orange County on Tuesday night 3-0 by scores of 25-10, 25-11, 25-13.

Western (11-0, 7-0) got another sound performance from senior Chastity Lacy who finished the match with seven kills and five blocks. Sophomore setter Riley Martin led the team with 18 assists and also had a pair of aces. Senior Megan Adams contributed 13 assists and Amanda Gough added four kills and two blocks.

For Orange, Emma Chronister had 10 digs to go along with five kills while teammate Rachel Donaldson had a pair of aces, digs and kills in addition to five blocks.
The Hornets (6-6, 1-5) will look to rebound on Thursday when they host Charlottesville.

The Warriors get Thursday off before facing off against a pair of quality non-district opponents. At noon Western will host Potomac Falls followed by a meeting with defending Group AA champion Loudoun Valley.

Mustangs take care of business
Monticello did its part to set up a big time showdown for Thursday. After dropping game one to host Louisa County, the Mustangs went on to win the next three games to take the match, 18-25, 25-23, 25-12, 25-12.

The Mustangs enjoyed an 11 kill performance from junior Kate Geldmacher. Senior setter Amanda Powell fueled the Monticello offense consistently with 25 assists. Defensive specialist Erica Watson, also a senior, led the team with 12 digs.

Monticello (7-4, 4-2) will host William Monroe on Thursday. The winner of that match will get a one game lead on third place in the Jefferson District with Western Albemarle and Fluvanna County occupying the top two spots respectively.
