Week Two volleyball poll

Week two of our new-for-2010 volleyball poll is out. Click here for last week’s poll. Madison moved up a spot while Nelson makes its first appearance.

Scrimmage Play Coaches and Media Poll

1. Western Albemarle

Warriors didn’t play late in the week, but 3-1 win over Albemarle early in the week was enough to hold on to top spot.

2. Albemarle

Patriots fell to Western but took care of business against North Stafford in a five-game match Thursday, so they stay at number two.

3. Madison County

Group A Mountaineers edge out Monticello by a point for third after beating William Monroe and Orange last week.

4. Monticello

Mustangs move down a spot more because of Madison’s stellar play than any struggles. Squad takes on Powhatan Tuesday night.

5.  William Monore (tied)

Dragons were swept by Madison County, but all three games were back and forth. The emergence of Katelyn Roach could give Monroe a strong one-two punch up front along with Alex Cave.

5. Fluvanna County (tied)

Since losing to Albemarle, Fluvanna has won three straight, sweeping Spotsylvania twice.

7. Covenant (tied)

Eagles topped Holy Cross last week and will face a pair of matches and a tournament during a busy slate this week.

7. Orange County (tied)

Hornets fell to Madison County in five games this week, and will face another tough test Thursday against Monticello in its district opener.

9. Nelson County

Defending Dogwood District tournament champs enter poll for first time. Governors face a tough district slate this year.

10. St. Anne’s-Belfield

STAB moves down a spot in the poll with Nelson’s entry, but Saints bring back a lot of talent and don’t open the year until late this week.
