STAB boys power past Fork Union

A lot of high school basketball teams want to play inside out, establishing the post to open things up on the perimeter.

St. Anne’s-Belfield put on something of a master class in that approach Friday night, attacking Fork Union inside early before Malachi Poindexter lit it up from the outside in a 66-40 blowout win against the Blue Devils.

Carter Lang scored eight first half points en route to a 13-point night that was his fifth double double of the season. Then Poindexter heated up, hitting three second half 3-pointers as part of his 19 point, seven assist and seven rebound outing. With Justin Taylor scoring 16, dishing out four assists and grabbing three rebounds, the Saints were able to roll comfortably, leading 30-21 at the break before extending that lead in the third to 48-31.

Fork Union got 23 points from Alex Williams while Casey Labasky chipped in eight points.

STAB takes on Miller School Saturday afternoon while the Blue Devils will look to bounce back at home Tuesday against Woodberry Forest.
