STAB baseball falls to St. Christopher’s

Maddison Furman was dialed in. St. Christopher’s baseball’s junior hurler was on point — not overpowering but on point.

Furman, a VCU pledge, struck out three and allowed just five hits as St. Christopher’s knocked off STAB 5-2 Thursday evening in a battle of the top two squads in the Prep League standings.

St. Chris got a lift offensively from Skyler Petrie’s home run and two RBI as well as Hunter Andrews’ 2-for-3, two RBI outing that included a double. Donovan Murphy also chipped in an RBI and a double and went 1-for-3. Furman went 2-for-3 at the plate. Jimmy Starnes had a double and scored a run.

STAB baseball seemed to start catching up with Furman in the sixth inning, including a blast of a double to deep left field by Nic Kent that led to a Jack Pausic RBI single. But a tough unassisted double play on a hard hit ball to first base ended the inning and the bulk of the threat as STAB couldn’t scratch out any runs in the seventh.

Pausic finished 2-for-3 on the night including a triple with Wayt Timberlake and Jack Byrne rounding out the STAB offensive performance with their hits.

Alex Markopoulos had an RBI and threw five solid innings, scattering seven hits while allowing five runs. Cooper Allen finished the game with two scoreless innings and just a single allowed hit.
