Rising Up: Monroe boys continue turnaround with win over Central

William Monroe’s boys basketball team wasn’t left for dead or anything, the Dragons just had a slow start to the regular season.

They’ve had anything but a slow finish.

The Dragons are absolutely red hot, winning eight in a row including Friday’s 58-53 overtime victory over Central Woodstock that tied Monroe for first place in the Northwestern District with Central. Monroe has secured at least a share of the Northwestern regular season title with Central playing George Mason to wrap the regular season Tuesday.

The Dragons pulled away in overtime after the game ended regulation at 50-50. Logan Barbour led the offensive attack with 23 points, seven assists and five rebounds. Franklin Lindsay notched a double double with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Troy Jones had 11 points and three steals.

The Dragons finish the district regular season 11-3 and now await Region 3B seeding. Unofficial standings had William Monroe at No. 7 in Region 3B three wins ago on February 5.
