Albemarle waited four years to get a home playoff game. This season they got two, and despite playing in miserable conditions Wednesday, the Patriots won again at home, this time blowing past Robert E. Lee-Springfield in the Region 5A North first round 14-2.

The Patriots’ bats caught fire in the fourth inning and didn’t slow down from there with 11 of Albemarle’s 16 hits coming in the final three frames. Those hits came from all over the lineup with a pack of Patriots putting together big nights at the plate.

Logan Friesen went 3-for-5 with a double, Quinn Graves went 3-for-4 with a triple, three RBI and a walk and Morgan Bettinger had an RBI and two sacrifice bunts. Kasie Pace went 2-for-4 and pitcher Ellie Cain helped herself with a 3-for-3 day that included two RBI. Meghan Brown chipped in a pair of hits.

Cain was tremendous in the circle for Albemarle, allowing just two runs, one of which was unearned while scattering four hits and striking out six batters.

The Patriots advance to the region quarterfinals where they’ll travel to Stone Bridge Thursday at 6:30.
