Power Pack: A pair of homers push Madison softball past Rappahannock

Photo by John Berry, Aliyah Aylor celebrates a first inning home run.

Sophomore Aliyah Aylor got the offense going for Madison County early with a two-run homer in the first inning to right field and while the Mountaineers never really exploded in a single inning, they kept adding on to their lead against Rapphannock and picked up a 7-3 victory at home.

Rapphannock closed within a run by cutting the Madison lead to 3-2 in the top of the fifth, but in the bottom half, Raelyn Soulsby ripped a two-run shot of her own to centerfield, scoring Breanna Thompkins who was running for pitcher Summer Anderson who’d reached on a single.

That blast was enough for Madison to pick up the win, though they tacked on two more runs in the sixth. Anderson struck out nine to make sure that effort on offense held up and allowed just one earned run on eight hits and three walks in the victory.

Aylor finished 3-for-4 with the homer on the night while Meaghan Dean went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Hailey Danuser had an RBI double.

For Rapphannock, Taylor Settle went 3-for-4 with a double and knocked in all three of the Panthers runs. Kammie Brown also had a double.

Tuesday the Mountaineers head to Stonewall Jackson-Quicksburg.
