It was a pretty good day at the office for Monticello softball’s Emily Morris.

Morris, the Mustangs’ leadoff hitter, ripped a pair of grand slams and surrendered just three runs while striking out eight in five innings in the circle against Albemarle to help power Monticello to a 16-3 victory.

Monticello built a 3-0 lead in the first and led 16-0 by the end of the third. They surrendered a trio of runs in the fifth but still managed to close out the win early.

Morris went 3-for-4 including the two grand slams as Monticello rang up 14 RBI and 12 hits as a team. Lindsey Robertson had three RBI while walking three times and Shianna Harris knocked in two runs. Hayley Shifflett went 3-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored while hitting two doubles. Kendall Gordon also had a double and an RBI while Kierstyn Zimmerman knocked in a run.

Sabrina Shisbey knocked in all three of Albemarle’s runs.

Both teams head to spring break now and will take the field again April 9. The Mustangs will face Western Albemarle on the road while Albemarle takes on Orange County at home.
