Miller School made short work of Blue Ridge’s baseball team Tuesday, with three pitchers combining for a one-hitter while the Mavericks’ offense exploded for a 20-0 victory in the VIC’s first round.
Adam Hackenberg’s three-run shot to left field highlighted the offensive performance, with Ethan Chenault also coming up with a big day going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Brent Rice stepped into the lineup and went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Four different Miller batters hit triples, with Lucas Adam, Chenault, Rice and Jeremy Wagner coming up with one each Rice also ripped a double as did Zach Mallia.
Matt Drude and Wagner each also chipped in two RBI.
The Mavericks’ pitchers struck out five collectively in the one-hitter, with Carrson Atkins, Nate Burton and Mallia combining in the effort with Atkins getting the start and the win.
Amon Johnson had the Barons’ lone hit.
The Mavericks will host a VIC semifinal clash Thursday.
