Make it 100

What might be most impressive about Western Albemarle coach Lance Rogers’ 100th Jefferson District victory is the number on the other side of that record. That’s one — one loss in 101 games of JD play.

Rogers snagged his 100th district win Tuesday night as the Warriors cruised past Louisa County 3-0, winning 25-9, 25-7, 25-11.

After the game, an impromptu ceremony ensued where Western’s athletic director Steve Heon gave Rogers the game ball emblazoned with his record and the achievement.

“It’s a milestone,” Rogers said. “It’s the fruit of longevity. This was a milestone.”

Western didn’t leave much drama to whether or not Rogers (144-38 all time) would get his 100th against the Lions, dominating play from the outset. Chastity Lacy led the Warriors with nine kills and nine digs, including the game-closing kill, while Sarah Harper added five kills and seven digs of her own. Ana Asher provided a force at the net with three blocks.

“We were joking that the team was not as emotional as we wanted them to be, they were all just doing soldierly, yeoman-like work and I appreciate that,” Rogers said. “They certainly seemed focused and motivated tonight and obviously it didn’t matter who I put in the match.”

The Warriors setting tandem of Riley Martin and Megan Adams evenly split triggering the offense with 11 assists each. Martin also contributed five aces.

Western takes on Charlottesville on the road Thursday, while Louisa travels to Orange County.
