Lockdown and Advance: Blue Ridge pulls away from Norfolk Christian in state quarters

Scoring on Blue Ridge boys basketball is exceedingly difficult on a normal night.

When everyone is taking care of their responsibility it can feel darn near impossible.

Norfolk Christian ran into a bit of that problem Wednesday night in the VISAA Division II quarterfinals against the No. 1-seeded Barons, with Blue Ridge pulling away in the fourth quarter for a 75-48 win.

The victory pushes the Barons into the state semifinals where they’ll face Middleburg Academy at Virginia State University Friday at 3:30 p.m.

The Barons forced 10 steals as a team, with Chris Rogers accounting for five of them. Blue Ridge held Norfolk Christian to just seven first quarter points to build a 13-7 lead.

Meanwhile on offense, Michael Gray was rolling with 22 points on 7-for-13 shooting including three 3-pointers.

Rogers set the table all night with 10 assists and zero turnovers. Andy Nwaoko pulled down 10 boards as the Barons took advantage of their size advantage underneath. Jaden Frazier also got in on that act with nine rebounds while Gray added seven boards to go with his explosive 22 points.

William Lee chipped in eight points while Rogers had Frazier each had seven points. Twelve different Barons notched points on the night in what will be the squad’s final home game of the year.
