Inside Issue Four

The October 15, 2009 edition of Scrimmage Play is being distributed on racks across Central Virginia today and tomorrow, and it’s jampacked with features, analysis and profiles across the prep sports scene. Here’s a look at what’s inside the issue.

A Look Back: Scrimmage Play takes a peek at the rich history of the Burley Bears and the school’s dominant football program that suffered through years of discrimination in a segregated Virginia. Tons of great anecdotes in this feature by Ryan Yemen.

Dynamic Duo:  Woodberry Forest, who is still unbeaten and after beating Fork Union and Collegiate the last two weeks, has two defensive linemen who will play big-time Division I, Duke Mosby and Aramide Olaniyan. The two players from different backgrounds work in perfect unison on the Tigers’ front four.

Laidback Runner: Louisa County’s Hannah Best is a tough, talented runner, but her demeanor between races might be her most defining characteristic.

Battling Back: Orange County’s Kayla Hooper fought back from an ACL injury suffered in the spring to contribute in a big way for the Hornets’ field hockey team.

Solid Foundation: Charlottesville football’s resurgence has been largely on a pair of defensive linemen — Steve Allen and Chris Grant — who are creating havoc for opposing offenses.

And it doesn’t stop there, there are more profiles and articles in the magazine including a look at the improvements coach E.A. Jackson is making over at Albemarle High in the field hockey program and a piece on Western Albemarle quarterback Stephen Schuler.
