Covenant trumps Fredericksburg Academy for LIS title

Considering the number of freshmen and sophomores contributing for Covenant’s field hockey team, it appears the Eagles are coming into their own ahead of schedule.

Covenant picked up a 2-0 victory Friday in the League of Independent Schools title game against defending state champion Fredericksburg Academy.

The teams split the regular season series with both squads holding serve at home, but Covenant broke that pattern with the win over Fredericksburg on the road Friday afternoon. Virginia Dittmar and Virginia Hill tallied the two goals for Covenant on 11 shots.

The Eagles knocked off 5-0 in the LIS semifinals. Covenant hasn’t surrendered a goal in its last three games, dating back to October 22.

Hill, Kristy Leahong and Taylor Brown all earned All-LIS honors.
