Covenant girls, St. Christopher’s boys win St. Anne’s-Belfield Invite

As cross country squads push toward the postseason, the St. Anne’s-Belfield Invitational provided a solid tune-up opportunity at Darden-Towe Park Sunday.

St. Christopher’s boys squad and Covenant’s girls team took advantage as both picked up team wins. Covenant’s girls team edged out STAB by just a single point 30-31 in the girls race, with individual champion Ella Dalton leading the way, fresh off her Covenant Invitational win last week on the same course.

Behind Dalton came Javaneh Brown, Elizabeth Ward and Bronwyn Beardsley of STAB before Ali Haynes crossed the line in fifth place for Covenant.

In the boys race, Blue Ridge’s Adam Maisano stepped up in a big way with a solid individual title run of 17:58.66, edging out St. Christopher’s Allan Pedin by less than 10 seconds. St. Christopher’s Wyatt Campbell followed in the third place and then a pair of Covenant runners, Andrew Rapp and Chase Carson, rounded out the top five.

St. Chris won the boys race by 13 points over runner-up STAB with 50 points to STAB’s 63. Behind the Saints came third-place Covenant (79), Tandem (109) in fourth and Blue Ridge in fifth (144). Fork Union took sixth and Miller took seventh while Regents finished ninth.
