Albemarle’s boys swim team put together a strong performance Wednesday night and it gives the Patriots a lot of momentum a little more than a week ahead of the state championships.

The Patriots held off runner-up Stafford 429 to 381 to win the Class 5, Region D championship.

Albemarle’s girls performed well too, taking third place behind a loaded Patrick Henry squad and runner-up Mountain View.

The Albemarle boys got the job done with a huge win in the final event, the 400-free relay, beating Stafford head to head. The Patriots also took the runner-up spot in the 200 medley relay and third in the 200 free relay.

In individual events, Nick Ashby led the way with a win in the 100 breaststroke and he also took third in the 200 IM.
