Woodberry, St. Anne’s-Belfield and FUMA’s Morris all come out winners in VISAA championships

It was a solid showing for all of the private schools in Central Virginia at the VISAA Division I and Division II championships held at Woodberry Forest.

In the Division I boy’s race, Fork Union’s Josh Morris ran the 5k course in 16:19.91, nearly 30 seconds better than the second place finisher, Collegiate’s Willis Cabell. Wojiech Czernek gave the Blue Devils two top-four finishers, but behind four top-15 finishes it was the hosting Tigers that walked home with team championship.

Woodberry edged out Episcopal by three points for the win with Kevin Bennert leading the way with his third place finish. Josh Trudgeon took 10th for the Tigers while teammates Max Anderson and James Long weren’t far behind with respective 12th and 14th place showings.  FUMA wound up in eighth place as a team. St. Anne’s-Belfield was 15th.

STAB took home the team title in the girl’s Division II race thanks largely in part to Sam Moore and Megan Pritchard who placed in 11th and 12th respectively. All five of the runners that posted scores for the Saints finished the race 30th or better.

In that same race Covenant’s Alicia Fox finished third place. Nella Hendley and Tori Meakem gave the Eagle’s three runners in the top 15 which earned the team a third place finish.

Covenant’s Harrison Yate’s ninth place finish in the boy’s Division II race helped pace the Eagle’s to a fifth place showing. The Miller school took sixth place with Baron Fortune finishing 20th.
