Western volleyball wins, Monticello hockey snags another victory

Goochland didn’t get a warm welcome from the Jefferson District Tuesday night, opening with a tough, talented Western Albemarle squad.

The Warriors rolled 3-0 to hand the Bulldogs their first district loss.

Sarah Harper led Western with a well-rounded performance of seven kills, four aces and six digs. Chastity Lacy matched Harper’s kill total with seven of her own while Ali Miles and Amanda Gough chipped in with five kills each. Riley Martin and Megan Adams triggered the attack with 15 assists each.

Ashley Harris had four kills and four digs for Goochland while Katie Dabney finished with three kills.

Western takes on Fluvanna County in a critical district tilt tonight at Fluvanna. The matchup should prove critical to the JD race, as an early leg up would be a big advantage for either team.

Mustangs move to 2-1

For the second night in a row, Monticello came up with an early goal and it stood the rest of the way as the Mustangs picked up a 1-0 victory over St. Anne’s.

Monticello did much the same against Covenant on Tuesday night, and again Darcy Alimenti connected with the early goal. Allison Kennedy assisted on the game’s lone tally.

The Mustangs held a 24-8 edge in shots, while Liz Cosgro came up with eight saves for Monticello.
