Western sweeps Goochland on senior night

One step down for Western Albemarle, now the postseason looms.

Western Albemarle capped its perfect 14-0 run in the Jefferson District with a 3-0 victory over Goochland last night: 25-12, 25-10, 25-22.

It was senior night for the Warriors, so the eight seniors on the squad saw significant playing time in some unfamiliar rotations. Indeed, the Warriors struggled with an untried lineup in game three and had to battle back from a 14-7 deficit. But after a quick time out, the team roared back behind the strong serving of Ali Miles. Each of the seniors were individually subbed out during the last eight points of the match, with each receiving a standing ovation from the crowd.

As per usual, Sarah Harper led the way for Western, finishing with 10 kills and 6 digs. Chastity Lacy registered 8 kills and two blocks while Amanda Gough tallied 5 kills and 5 digs and Megan Adams notched 19 assists.

Western (19-1) will host Charlottesville tomorrow in the quarterfinals of the Jefferson District tournament.
