Western girls tennis sweeps Rockbridge

The rematch is on.

Western Albemarle’s girls tennis team made short work of Rockbridge Monday in the Conference 29 quarterfinals, rolling 5-0. The win sets up a rematch of 2015’s state final between the Warriors and Cave Spring in the conference semifinals Tuesday. Cave Spring edged the Warriors 5-4 in the final last year.

“We’re excited to be back in the regional semifinal and have another crack at Cave Spring tomorrow,” said Western coach Ellen Markowitz. “They’re a great team, we certainly know that from last year.”

Maddy Ix and Savannah Diamond both won their matches 6-0, 6-0.
