Western Albemarle wins Region 3C golf championship, Fluvanna’s Killian Donnelly wins individual title

Western Albemarle’s golf team is headed back to the state tournament this year after outpacing runner-up Rockbridge County at the Region 3C tournament by 26 strokes.

The Warriors’ top four all carded scores within two strokes of one another, with Luke Vance and Sam Stoke each notching a 75 to tie for second place individually in the tournament and Jack Crombie and Brian O’Dea each putting together a 77 to finish with a 304 as a team in front of Rockbridge’s 330. The victory vaults Western into the Class 3 state championships next week in Abingdon.

Meanwhile, Fluvanna County’s Killian Donnelly caught fire and cut 10 strokes off his finish of 83 at the Jefferson District tournament on his home course at Lake Monticello, finishing with a 73 to capture the individual region championship.

Monticello finished fourth as a team, with Curt Huffman carding an 85, Bailey Bush an 86, Spencer Ratliff a 90 and Will Owens an 89.

Charlottesville’s Preston Burton was the next highest local individual finisher with a 77, tying O’Dea and Crombie for sixth overall.
