Western Albemarle wins 2019 Jefferson District golf title

Western Albemarle’s golf team put together a solid performance at Meadowcreek Monday to wrap up the 2019 Jefferson District golf championship.

The Warriors carded a 306 as a team, led by Luke Vance’s 74 and Jack Crombie’s 76. Sam Stoke finished with a 77, Ben Winslow a 79 and Brian O’Dea rounded out the team score with an 80. The district title also clinches a spot in the Region 3C tournament for the Warriors.

The Warriors held off runner-up Albemarle who carded a 321 on the day, led by Vivian Hui’s 75, Mia Liang’s 80 and Robert Brozey’s 82. Aaron Farmer finished with an 84 and Jack Kelly carded an 87 to cap the Patriots’ finish. Meanwhile, Orange finished with a 332 led by Luke Jarrell’s 77 and Fluvanna checked in in fourth with a 343 sparked by Killian Donnelly’s 74. The Flucos’ finish as the second best Region 3C team within the Jefferson District vaults them into the region tournament.

None of the top four teams produced the individual champion though as Louisa County’s Zane Moore put together a strong round of 69 to win the individual title by five strokes over Donnelly, Vance and Charlottesville’s Preston Burton who were in a three-way tie for second.

The Black Knights finished with a 349 and also qualified Burton and Rob Walker for the Region 3C tournament while Monticello, who finished sixth in the district, will send Braden Swartout and Nick Anglin to the Region 3C tournament.
