Wait Ends: Madison football shuts out Rappahannock for first win

Madison County’s season is more about laying a foundation than anything, its win total largely divorced from that process.

But it still has to feel awfully good to get one.

Madison rolled to its first win of the season with a 42-0 shutout against Rappahannock, giving first-year Madison coach Jon Rasnick his first victory as a head coach and Madison a shot in the arm late in the first year of a serious rebuild.

Senior Jack Bourdon had a monster performance in the win, catching a touchdown, picking off a pass late in the first half and ripping off a 63-yard punt return for a touchdown.

The Mountaineers’ Wade Fox led the offensive assault with four touchdown passes, completing nine of his 16 attempts for 180 yards in the process. Fox completed the first of those four scores to Bourdon. He threw another to Hugh Wingate in the second quarter and two more to Khalid West. West had 73 yards on three catches while Bourdon had three catches for 53 yards.

On the ground, Isaiah Dowell had another strong performance with 123 yards on 17 touches and Samuel Estes scored on the ground while picking up 38 yards on four touches. Fox also had 50 yards on four carries.

The Mountaineers — who’s offense came alive two weeks ago in a shootout with Page County — will try and make it two wins in a row when they square off with East Rockingham Friday night.
