Volleyball Roundup 10.25.17: Albemarle clinches district title, Western and MHS pick up victories

Albemarle’s volleyball team made it official Tuesday night, wrapping up the regular season Jefferson District crown to earn the program’s 21st regular season district championship.

The Patriots stayed unbeaten in Jefferson District play with a 3-0 victory over Charlottesville Tuesday. Albemarle, 13-0 in the Jefferson District, won 25-11, 25-12 and 25-18.

The Patriots’ front line put together a balanced attack, with Katie Schnell, Madison Warlick and Gabbi DeGennaro each registering five kills. Adalee Lynch registered four blocks for the Patriots, combining for a strong all-around defensive effort with Kendall Gray and Avani Hopkins who had 13 and 10 digs respectively. Kelsey Marks finished with three aces while Keira Roach had four aces and 11 assists. Schnell added 10 assists to go with her five kills.

The Patriots wrap up their Jefferson District slate with a home game against Fluvanna County Thursday night.

 

Western Albemarle beats Orange

Western Albemarle’s volleyball team swept Orange County Tuesday night, rolling 3-0 over the Hornets.

The Warriors won 25-7, 25-15 and 25-14.

Abby Johnson led the Warriors with eight kills while Caity Driver finished with six kills. Natalie Peck had a big night at the service line with four aces. Sierra McCance finished with 11 assists. Lilly Davis had four digs and Amber Parker finished with five digs. Sierra McCance finished with 11 assists.

The Warriors host Charlottesville Thursday in the squad’s regular season finale.

 

Monticello makes short work of Louisa

Monticello volleyball swept Louisa County 3-0 Tuesday, helping the Mustangs lock up a top-3 seed in the Region 3B tournament next week.

Makysha Brock had another monster night with 10 kills, 11 digs and two blocks. Amaya Gibson had 17 digs and three aces. Jewell Pugh registered 28 assists. Piper Goodman had six kills, Ellie Quick had four kills and Piper Goodman had six kills. Allie Cognata chipped in four kills and five digs. Olivia Davis had three blocks.

Madison County volleyball beat Strasburg 3-0, wrapping up the Bull Run District regular season championship.
