The Virginia High School League released its master football schedule today and there were no surprises really as the teams enter the second half of the usual two-year cycle where mostly the schedules simply flip from home to away each week. Monticello gets the biggest boost from that flip as the Mustangs will have seven home games and only hit the road three times and they’re all three short trips — at Charlottesville, Western and Albemarle. That certainly makes up for the Mustangs’ road warrior status last season.
Charlottesville should also benefit with a trio of home out-of-district games while Albemarle will have to hit the road for a couple of tough out-of-district contests against Massaponax and Patrick Henry-Roanoke.
Goochland will welcome Essex this year to the Bulldogs’ home field instead of making that long trip. Madison also won’t travel far in its out-of-district schedule as their lone road trip is just up the road at Culpeper.
