STAB boys upend St. Christopher’s

For the first time in six years, St. Anne’s-Belfield’s boys basketball truly enjoyed the ride home from St. Christopher’s.

The Saints knocked off the Richmond power 69-63, handing St. Christopher’s just its second loss of the year while pushing STAB to a 5-0 start in Prep League play.

Justin Taylor led STAB’s offense with 21 points, including eight critical points in the fourth quarter. Malachi Poindexter also had eight fourth quarter points and set the table all night with 10 assists to post a double double with 18 total points. Poindexter also chipped in five boards. Carter Lang put together his own double double — his eighth of the year — with 10 points and 11 boards. Nick Reese finished with nine points and five boards.

STAB went 8-for-10 at the free throw line in the fourth to close out the win.

St. Christopher’s got 17 points each from Gill Williamson and Walker Wallace. Nigel Green chipped in 15 and Keishawn Pulley had 12.

After a long weekend off, STAB will look to keep things rolling in the Prep League with a trip to Woodberry Forest.
