Post-Fall Wells Fargo Cup standings released

The VHSL released the Wells Fargo Cup standings, a measure of the success of all sports in an athletic department, and several local schools are in solid position after the first third of the year.

In Group 5A, Albemarle is in a tie for ninth place, with 65 total points on the strength of the Patriots’ cross country teams that placed at states. The girls were fifth while the boys squad took fourth place overall.

Charlottesville is in ninth place in Group 4A, with field hockey’s state semifinalist appearances and golf’s third place finish at the state championships.

Western Albemarle is in fourth place in Group 3A with 112.5 points, with girls cross country, boys cross country and football’s state semifinalist finish combining for the point total. The Warriors trail first place Loudoun Valley by 30 points. William Monroe is in 15th place with the golf team’s fourth place finish accounting for all the Dragons’ points.

The Cup standings will be updated again after the winter sports season.
