Orange softball rallies late to beat Monroe

Trailing in a low scoring softball game, Orange County’s offense came alive in the fifth and sixth to swipe away 6-4 win over visiting William Monroe to earn a season sweep.

 

Orange went up 1-0 in the second after it got an RBI single from Allyson Aylor scored Hannah Meadows. There were four singles and an intentional walk in the second for the Hornets but Monroe’s Hallie Lamb was able to get out of a bases loaded jam without any further damage.

 

The Dragons answered in the bottom of the with Lacey Beale delivering an RBI triple to score Kaitlyn Beale. Monroe took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth with Alexis Wayland coming up with an RBI single to plate Alexis Lam.

 

Orange took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second. The Hornets tied the game with Lexi Lomax scoring when Meadows reached on an error. Then Brook Figgins came up with an RBI single to score Ashley Brassart and make it 3-2.

 

The Hornets had a 3-run rally in the bottom of the sixth. First Brassart came up with a sacrifice fly to score Lomax who reached on an intentional walk. Then Meadows came up with a 2-out 2-run double to help her own cause and make it 6-2.

 

The Dragons rallied for two runs in the seventh. Wayland started it with a 1-out single. Jessica Ford was the intentionally walked. Wayland scored stealing home and Ford was brought home on a 2-out RBI single from Alexis Ray. But Meadows pitched out of any further damage, getting a ground out to Lomax at shortstop to wrap up the win.

 

For Monroe, Wayland and Lacey Beale were both 2-for-4 with an RBI. Jordan Shortrdige was 2-for-3.

 

For Orange, Brooke Figgins was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Meadows was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Brassart was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Lomax was 0-for-0 with four walks and two runs scored.

 

Monroe (1-3) hosts Turner Ashby on Wednesday. Orange (5-1) hosts Madison County on Friday.
