Orange explodes past Fluvanna County

By Jess Shifflett/ Scrimmageplay.com correspondent

Orange County didn’t waste any time when they stepped onto Fluvanna’s home field on Friday night. With three unanswered scores in the first quarter alone, Cameron Hughes and company completely owned the offensive side of the football in a 42-7 Hornet victory.

A Dominique Walker one-yard rushing touchdown ignited the Hornet offense.

After a 73-yard Hughes pass to Tyler Seal quickly followed by a 75-yard toss to Amir Waller, Orange found itself already ahead 21-0 with just over two minutes remaining in the first quarter.

The Hornet defense chipped in on the effort, holding Fluvanna until the 1:54 mark in the first quarter before the first Fluco first down. Quarterback Ryan Foster bumped heads with Troy Johnson, Tyler Seal, Dakota Connell, and Eddie Ellington often, as each registered at least one sack on the game.

After a Hornet fumble, Foster rushed for the Flucos’ only touchdown on the night after a 33 yard scramble at the 3:39 mark in the second quarter.

The momentum seemed to shift momentarily to the home team as Tyler Denby picked off a Hughes pass with 2:47 left to play in the half. However, the Hornet defense proved to be too much for Fluvanna to handle as Johnson sacked Foster for a loss and a batted pass forced the Flucos to punt away the opportunity, leaving Orange with a 21-7 halftime lead.

Throughout the second half, the Hornets showcased their playmaking prowess as Brandon Van returned a kick off for a 59 yard touchdown and Hughes hit Jamal Hunter in the end zone. Foster and sophomore wide receiver YaYa

Anderson couldn’t connect and provide an answer for the Hornets’ onslaught.

Orange improves to 4-3, 3-2 and will travel to Western next week to take on the Warriors at 7:30 in Crozet.

Fluvanna drops to 2-6, 1-4 and will host Charlottesville. Kick off is set for 7:30 in Palmyra.
