Baseball Roundup: Orange baseball beats Madison, Western shuts out Waynesboro

Orange County’s baseball team is off to a solid start and they kept it going with a 5-2 victory over Madison County Friday night. The Hornets moved to 4-0 on the year with the victory.

 

Tre Smith helped power the win at the top of the lineup for the Hornets, going 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI in the leadoff spot. Bradley Hanner knocked in two runs and went 2-for-4 at the plate. Joel Wright and Christian Amos brought home the other runs, with Amos going 2-for-4.

 

Jeffrey Davies put together a strong pitching performance for Orange, allowing just two hits, one run and three walks in five innings of work while striking out three. Orange held the Mountaineers to just three total hits.

 

For Madison, Isiah Smith, Eli Estes and Chase Berry had one hit each. Zachary Adams went four innings on the mound, allowing two earned runs, four hits and five walks.

 

The Hornets play Massaponnax Monday before taking on Albemarle Wednesday in a critical Jefferson District matchup.

 

Western Albemarle baseball shuts out Waynesboro

 

Western Albemarle’s baseball team played an error-free game and rolled to a 9-0 victory over Waynesboro Friday night.

 

Luke Tenuta struck out seven, scattered five hits and allowed one walk in four innings of work on the mound. Jack Masloff then cleaned up the game with six strikeouts in three innings and just one walk.

 

Derek Domecq led the Warriors (3-1) offensively with a home run, a triple and two RBI. Garrett Payne and Ryan Sukovich both hit doubles while Brandon Campbell had his first varsity hit.
