Offensive balance pushes Orange past Fluvanna

Orange County’s offense was hitting on all cylinders last week, but slowing down Charlottesville proved too tough of a task.

This week, the Hornets kept the offense going and held Fluvanna in check.

The Hornets rolled 47-21 over Fluvanna County, jumping out to a 27-7 lead before halftime while keeping the pressure on in the second half with two third quarter scores. The Hornets piled up 470 yards of total offense.

The Hornets employed a balanced attack with quarterback Kenyon Carter throwing for 250 yards and three touchdowns while Jaylen Alexander went for 129 yards and three touchdowns on 16 touches on the ground. Carter was particularly efficient, going 12-for-18 on the night, finding Darius Minor five times for 148 yards and two touchdowns (one from 34 yards out, the other from 70). Chris Washington also caught a 34-yard touchdown while Ty Warren hauled in 50 yards on five receptions.

Orange’s Hylton Halen chipped in 45 yards on two carries on the ground while Washington scored on a five-yard run early in the fourth quarter.

Fluvanna senior Trevor O’Dell scored from 38 yards out for the Flucos’ lone first half touchdown and finished with 86 yards on seven touches. Quarterback Colby Martin had 69 yards on 16 carries. Ethan Graves threw for 60 yards and scored a touchdown on the ground and Ryan Tyree had 52 yards on four catches. Drew Hamshar also scored a rushing touchdown.
