Offensive balance powers STAB boys past Flint Hill

St. Anne’s-Belfield’s boys basketball team drew a tough test out of the gate Tuesday night, facing Flint Hill and 6-foot-10 junior Qudus Wahab in the Saints’ season opener.

The Saints passed the test, beating Flint Hill 82-76.

Wahab got his points, as the big man with offers from Clemson, Old Dominion and Virginia Tech scored 26 but that performance couldn’t overcome a balanced effort by the Saints as Messiah Woods and Jordan Pennix each poured in 22 points while Dalton Taylor finished with 14 and Myles Ward chipped in another nine.

Nic Kent filled up the stat sheet with six points, five assists, nine rebounds and five steals.

Ward added three assists, four rebounds and two steals to his effort. Taylor had three assists and three rebounds while Woods had four assists and three boards. Pennix nabbed three steals and three rebounds. Nick Reese finished with a trio of assists.

The Saints will host Covenant Friday night.
