Nelson football races past Rappahannock

Nelson County’s football team hadn’t won a homecoming game in nine years.

That drought ended against Rappahannock Friday as the Governors rolled 51-7 past Rappahannock and moved back to .500 on the season at 2-2.

Nelson’s defense proved the difference-maker in this one with four total interceptions including three that went to the house for scores. Jamel Rose picked off two of those including one pick six while Brice Wilson and Cole Koschara had one interception for a touchdown each.

Felix Rodriguez had a big night with eight tackles to lead the Governors and two rushing touchdowns on six carries for 77 yards. George Brown chipped in 78 yards passing and 57 yards on the ground while also scoring twice on rushes.

Kavin Carter chipped in five solo tackles and Brandon Jamerson had a sack for the Governors. Aveon Tabb scored a rushing touchdown and Johnny Quick had 45 yards on two catches.

Nelson jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.

The Governors jump back into Dogwood District play Friday when they travel to Altavista.
