Nelson County baseball debuts with a win over Parry McCluer

Thanks to a explosive fifth inning and a strong pitching performance by Landen Campbell and Jace Martin, Nelson County beat Parry McCluer 4-2 Monday night to open the season 1-0.

Campbell threw 3.1 innings, gave up four hits and two unearned runs while striking out eight while Martin struck out seven in his 3.2 innings and gave up just one hit and didn’t walk anyone.

The offense capitalized on Parry McCluer’s five errors  with some savvy base running and a Blayze McGarry RBI. McGarry stole five bases in the win and Martin stole three more. McGarry went 1-for-3 at the plate, Martin went 1-for-2 and Walker Wiloughby went 1-for-1 and drew a pair of walks. Quentin Page went 1-for-3 and scored a run.

The Governors will look to keep it going Wednesday at home against Buffalo Gap.
