Moving On: Madison softball pushes past Luray in Region 2B quarterfinals

Madison County softball’s Logyn Estes was close to perfect in the circle and Emily Seale closed it out with a three-run home run in the sixth inning as the Mountaineers dropped Luray 4-0 in the Class 2, Region B quarterfinals.

Estes three seven shutout innings, striking out seven and scattering just three hits. The Madison defense helped snuff out those with Meadow Anderson and Bailey Smith turning a double play in the top of the fourth and Cassie Smith gunning down a baserunner in the top of the first.

Seale’s homer gave Madison all cushion it needed after surviving six innings with a 1-0 lead after Hannah Johnson scored on a wild pitch in the first inning. Johnson reached on an error, stole second and then moved to third on a fielder’s choice before scoring on the wild pitch for what held up as the game-winning run.

Cassie Smith went 2-for-3 at the plate while Anderson and Bailey Smith also had hits. Smith and Sophie Adams scored on Seale’s homerun blast.

The Mountaineers are now one win away from a state tournament berth. They’ll host Wilson Memorial in the Region 2B semifinals with that state tournament bid on the line.
