Madison boys beat Stuarts Draft in region quarters

Madison County boys basketball got things going in early February when the Mountaineers snapped a two-game skid with a win over East Rockingham.

Since then?

Madison hasn’t lost a single game.

The Mountaineers won their seventh-straight Tuesday night in the Region 2B quarterfinals, beating Stuarts Draft 67-49 at home with three players in double figures as a balanced offense led the way. The win pushes the Mountaineers into the region semifinals where they’ll face Central-Woodstock with a state tournament berth on the line.

Madison (20-6) got another stat-sheet stuffing performance from Bryce Breeden who scored 22 points, blocked eight shots and hauled in seven rebounds. Breeden also forced four steals and went 6-for-11 from the field.

Those eight blocks from Breeden helped spearhead a strong defensive effort for the Mountaineers.

Seth McLearen played a big role in the offense with 19 points, six boards and three assists. Billy Acton was on the edge of another double double with 15 points and nine rebounds while going 5-for-6 at the line. Max Lohr hauled in 10 rebounds, helping give Madison a decisive edge on the boards.

Madison will face Central Woodstock at 7 p.m. Thursday night in the Region 2B semifinals.
