Louisa girls continue breakout season, win Conference 19 title

It took double overtime, but Louisa County’s girls basketball team picked up its second piece of hardware on the year Thursday night, edging King George 65-61 in the Conference 19 title game.

“We had to fight, battle and claw our way past a very scrappy team,” said Louisa County coach Nick Schreck. “They took us out of what we do best and out worked us in the first half. We really had to pull together and trust one another and the system to get things going our way.”

Tyi Skinner poured in 30 points to carry the Lions’ offense, with six of those 30 coming in the two overtimes. She went 8-for-13 at the free throw line.

Beyond Skinner’s huge effort, Terriana Neely and Anna Agee had seven points each.

The Lions’ bench, including freshmen Tianna Smith and Alexis Miller gave Louisa a ton of energy on the defensive end.

“(They) really stepped up for us tonight giving us energy off the bench and helping turn the tide in the second half,” Schreck said.

DaNikqua Marshall and Neely also helped Louisa control the boards especially during the second half surge.

“I am just really proud of the girls and how they never quit tonight,” Schreck said.

The Lions move on to the Region 4A East playoffs next week.
