Louisa football blows past Chancellor

Louisa County picked up a lot of momentum last week with a blowout win over Courtland, but one mark of a great team is how they respond when things aren’t perfect, when someone is out.

Without standout quarterback Malik Bell in the lineup and with emergency fill-in Jarrett Hunter stepping in, Louisa passed a key early season test with a 48-14 victory on the road against Chancellor.

Louisa’s ground game just kept churning along behind an offensive line that has gelled quickly despite adding some new faces to the mix. The Lions rolled up 423 rushing yards as a team in the win, with Hunter picking up 149 of those on 18 touches while scoring a touchdown. Hunter also tossed a touchdown to Caleb Turner from 29 yards out, while Turner added a late second quarter pick six as Louisa built a 35-7 halftime lead.

Job Whalen rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries while Raquan Jones went for 71 yards and two touchdowns on eight carries.

Perhaps most importantly for a first time starter at quarterback, Hunter piloted an offense that didn’t commit a single turnover, taking care of the ball throughout. The Louisa defense, meanwhile, had three takeaways including a pair of interceptions, both by Turner including the pick six.

Louisa travels next week to take on King George.
