Louisa County girls beat Western Albemarle to stay unbeaten

With Olivia McGhee out of the lineup Tuesday night against Western Albemarle, Louisa County needed the rest of the roster to step up.

They were ready.

With Sylvie Jackson leading the way with an 18-point performance and nine different Lions chipping in, Louisa beat Western Albemarle 64-38, pushing Louisa to 10-0 on the year.

Alexis Chapman finished with 13 points and Lydia Wilson notched 12 points for the Lions who buried 11 3-pointers as a team. Jackson knocked down four of those while Wilson and Haley Walker had two from beyond the arc each.

Louisa led 14-10 at the end of the first but really going in the third quarter with Jackson and Chapman scoring six each and Wilson scoring five as part of a 19-point frame. The Lions’ defense held Western to seven points during that stretch.

Western’s Kayleigh Long and Karina Long were both out of the lineup, taking some sizeable scoring punch out of the mix for the Warriors. Dylan Mitchell stepped up with 11 points including three 3-pointers. Kate Wallace chipped in five points.

Emion Byers was also a scratch for the Lions, but Kyla Banks and Taylor Fifer each scored in the first quarter to make sure the Lions didn’t miss a beat.

The Lions will host Orange County Thursday while Western will host Charlottesville the same night.
