Johnson explodes for 31 as STAB girls beat John Paul the Great

St. Anne’s-Belfield girls basketball trailed by three at the half Saturday, largely unfamiliar territory for the 18-1 Saints.

STAB, clearly, wasn’t phased.

The Saints roared back to beat John Paul the Great 56-36, with eighth grader Kymora Johnson pouring in a career high 31 points including seven 3-pointers to lead the way.

Johnson hit seven of the 16 3-point attempts she took and also snagged eight rebounds, dished out five assists and picked up a pair of steals.

STAB trailed 19-16 at the break, but with Johnson rolling and senior Jovia Winkey scoring 12 and Scottie Hull scoring 10 points, with both guards forcing three steals. Sallie Vick picked up six rebounds.

The Saints jump back into LIS play at home against St. Margaret’s on Tuesday.
