Hornets disptach Dragons, get back to .500

After miscue that allowed William Monroe to put the game’s first points on the board, Orange County snapped back into shape to win handidly 44-3.

The Hornets enjoyed big games quarterback Cameron Hughes and receiver Amir Waller. Hughes, a junior, racked up 260 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 13 of 24 passing. Waller, also a junior accumulated 155 yards of total offense with his three receptions for 97 yards and his two carries for 58 yards. Waller had both a touchdown on the ground and in the air.

For Monroe, Markees Towles forced an early interception that led the Greene Dragons to their only lead of the game. Towles gave his team solid field position on the 19-yard return that set up the 35-yard field goal from Rhodes Beeler. Towles had four rushing attempts for 21 yards while teammate Logan Forloines had 46 on 11 tries.

Monroe (0-7, 0-4 Jefferson) will host Western Albemarle on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Orange (3-3, 2-2) will host Fluvanna County on Friday as well. It too will start at 7:30 p.m.
