Goochland relay squad highlights local performances at Region 2A East track

Several local athletes put together solid days at the Region 2A East championships at East Rockingham Wednesday including a Goochland relay team rolling to a region championship.

Goochland’s boys track’s 4×800 squad raced to a new Region 2A East meet record of 8:33.61 to take home the region title.  Reid Caudill, Austin Bruce, Brandon Pleasants and Larry Minor, Jr. combined for the victory. Caudill and Pleasants also ran on the runner-up 4×400 squad, teaming up with Cordell Mattox and Dallas Holmes for that victory that would’ve also been a meet record if not for first place Central-Woodstock’s performance.

Individually for the Bulldogs, Mattox placed seventh in the 400 while Bruce was ninth in the 1600 and Caudill took eighth in the 800.

The Goochland girls’ relay teams all scored with the 4×800 taking fifth, the 4×400 squad taking sixth and the 4×100 group placing eighth. Alex Herrera finished sixth in the 300 hurdles while freshman teammate Kennedy Carter took eighth.

For Nelson County, Anthony Lee took sixth in the long jump and seventh in the high jump. Brian Orrock took eight in the 400 while Josh Haywood was 10th in the 200.

The Nelson girls finished eighth as a team, with the Governors’ 4×400 squad taking third to lead the way. Treshanda Crawford and Madelyn Cooper tied for third in the pole vault for Nelson while Nicole Pouliot finished fourth in the high jump. Danica Rudolph took seventh in the 400, Megan BRown was eighth in the shotput and Samantha Tibbs was ninth in the long jump.

Madison County’s Rashawn Turner took fifth in the 800 while teammate Dre Twyman was ninth in the high jump and 10th in the 300 hurdles. The Mountaineers’ 4×800 team took 10th.

Madison’s girls 4×400 relay team took ninth.
