Fork Union indoor track finishes as runner-up in Prep League

Fork Union was a half point away from grabbing a share of the Prep League indoor track championship.

Instead, St. Christopher’s won their second straight indoor Prep League title Saturday, edging runner-up FUMA in dramatic fashion 145.5 to 145.

The Saints got a huge lift from an amazing all around day by Elby Omohundro who won both the high jump and triple jump, finished as the runner-up in the long jump and shot put and took third in the 55-meter hurdles. Teammate Frank Royal also had a strong day, winning the long jump and runner-up in the 300 while taking third in the 55-meter dash.

Fork Union’s near miss at claiming its first indoor title since 2013 came on the strength of a pair of strong relay performances — a win in the 4×200 and a runner-up in the 4×400 — and Will Stupalsky’s all-around effort. Stupalsky won the pole vault, took second in the triple jump and second in the 55-meter hurdles while taking third in the long jump.

Ebruba Etta won a pair of individual titles for the Blue Devils, taking home the 55-meter dash and 300-meter dash wins. R.C. Walbrook won the 55-meter hurdles and took third in the 300. Julian Yescas won the 1600 and Blaine Marrs won the 3200.

Joshua Julien took third in the 500 and Harrison Duncan was third in the triple to round out the bulk of Fork Union’s scoring.

Woodberry finished fifth with Baron Becker taking second in the high jump and Jeb Brinkley taking third in the pole vault.
