Football roundup: Monticello, William Monroe and Goochland results

Anyone looking for a clinic on how to run the ball need only contact Goochland County. Hosting King George, the Bulldogs came up with 35-12 victory, boosted by 359 yards on the ground.

Three different running backs tallied big-time yardage for Goochland (3-0) with Dustin Plummer picking up 121 yards on eight attempts, David McKenna running 14 times for 106 yards, and Willie Ezell going for 89 yards on 11 touches. All three backs had at least one touchdown.

The Bulldogs scored twice in the first quarter and tacked on seven points in each of the next three frames.

The newest member of the Jefferson District joins Western Albemarle as the only team to make it through non-district play undefeated. The Bulldogs will play their first ever JD game on Friday when they host Charlottesville on Friday.

Eastern View cruises past William Monroe

Behind 162 yards on the ground and 299 through the air by quarterback Simon Pendleton, Eastern View was able to roll past host William Monroe 38-7 on Friday night.

The Greene Dragons led 7-6 after the first quarter on a scoring drive that was capped by a short Markees Towles touchdown run. However, in the next three quarter the Cyclones offense mustered up more offense, and while Monroe was able to turn a pair of turnovers, it wasn’t enough to keep pace with Eastern View.

Jordan Gentry led the Monroe defense with seven tackles and a pass defended while Logan Forloines was the top offensive player with 85 yards of rushing on 16 attempts. The Dragons put together 114 yards on the ground, but struggled in the passing department with just 66 yards on 20 attempts.

Monroe (0-3) will open up district play on Friday when they host

Louisa County.

Rough night for Mustangs

Powhatan poured it on against Monticello Friday with a 56-6 victory on the Mustangs’ home field—the most points surrendered in Monticello’s school history.

The Mustangs fell to 1-2 for the first time since 2001 with the loss.

Powhatan rolled up 397 yards rushing, with a pair of 100-yard rushers leading the way. Quarterback Shawn Minor carried seven times for 110 yards and three touchdowns while Landen Bradley put together a 126-yard night on 15 carries. Powhatan went the entire game without punting once.

Jesse Ayers and Nate Valdez had decent nights on the ground with 68 and 59 yards respectively.

The road won’t get any easier for Monticello when they visit Orange County Friday.
