Fluvanna girls basketball wins back-to-back games

Fluvanna County’s girls basketball squad absorbed a frustrating loss on Tuesday night at the hands of Western on the road.

But the Flucos flipped the script to end the week, winning back-to-back clashes on Friday and Saturday to get themselves back on track.

Fluvanna started the two-game run with a 56-51 win over Louisa County, with freshman Kyia Scott pouring in 21 points in the win.

Saturday, the Flucos followed that win with a 39-33 victory over traditional Conference 29 power Turner Ashby, a team just two years removed from winning the 2015 state championship in Group 3A.

This time it was three freshmen leading Fluvanna with a balanced offensive attack as Mya Wright scored 11, Nevaeh Ivory notched 10 and Scott finished with 9. Ivory also had four assists and five rebounds while Scott pulled down six boards. Chaniya Brown came up with four steals on the night and Jemika Johnson had five boards.

The Flucos face a tough three-game stretch heading into the break next week, taking on Albemarle, Waynesboro and Orange during another busy slate.
