Fluvanna baseball shuts out Powhatan

Fluvanna County’s baseball team is having a pretty darn good week and they’ve got another game to play.

Coming off a road win over Spotswood earlier this week, the Flucos beat Powhatan Thursday 7-0.

The Flucos will wrap up a challenging week with Louisa County on the road tonight.

A group effort on the mound once again helped push Fluvanna to the win, with Juniors Sean Holyfield and Noah Brown combining with freshman Cameron Shields for a two-hit effort. Holyfield threw four innings and surrendered just one hit while striking out six.

“This was a great overall team game, we went out there and threw strikes and had timely hitting,” Fluvanna coach Mike Sheridan said. “We’ve had two outstanding pitching performances (this week) from six different pitches.”

Jacob Critzer exploded at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance finishing a home run short of the cycle while knocking in four runs. Nathan Gentry went 2-for-3 with a pair of laser-like doubles and Brant Wood knocked in a run and scored one while going 2-for-3.

“Every time we go out there we talk about getting better. That’s what we’re trying to do and we’ve got a good mix out there, we’ve got some kids who can run and some kids who can swing it,” Sheridan said.

Brad Painter went 2-for-3 for Powhatan, registering both the Indians’ hits.
