Flucos pick up first JD victory by beating Monroe

After winning its first game of the year against Prince Edward, victories had been difficult to come by for Fluvanna County. On Friday the Flyin’ Flucos earned their first Jefferson District win of the Rodney Redd era by taking down William Monroe 39-7.

T.J. Dudley had a whale of a first half for Fluvanna. The Flucos’ running back piled up 104 yards on 20 carries, and eventually finished with 176 yards on 28 attempts and a touchdown. Freshman quarterback Christian Hackenburg got some quality minutes under center for Fluvanna. The young quarterback completed 5 of his 11 passes for 135 yards and two scores, one of them coming a 52-yard strike to sophomore receiver Yaya Anderson.

For Monroe, it was a tough night on offense as the Flucos held running back Logan Forloines to 34 yards on nine attempts. Quarterback Mitchell Morris didn’t get any breaks either, going 7 for 18 for 56 yards. Doug Sizemore provided the lone score for Monroe on a 10-yard run late in the fourth quarter.

The Dragons (0-6, 0-3) will travel to Orange County on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The Flucos (2-4, 1-2) will host Goochland for their homecoming, also on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
