Fall Sports Roundup 9.2.16: Orange, Monticello field hockey grab wins

Orange County field hockey battled its way to an overtime win Thursday night. The Hornets edged out Liberty-Bealeton 2-1 in extra time.

Orange’s Courtney Yancey scored both the regulation goal and game-winner off short corners, with assists from Holli Foster and Clover Cooper.

The Hornets will host Western Albemarle Wednesday as they jump into Jefferson District play.

 

Monticello field hockey snags a win

Monticello’s field hockey team knocked off Louisa County Thursday, beating the Lions 6-0 to open up Jefferson District play.

Juniors Paige McGlothlin and Mia Huff scored two goals each for the Mustangs while Kendall Smith and Natalie Gibson scored one goal apiece to round out the scoring.

The Mustangs will travel to E.C. Glass Tuesday in an out-of-district clash.

 

Albemarle golf beats Fluvanna

With Jack Bruns leading the way, Albemarle County beat Fluvanna 158-179 Thursday.

Bruns finished with a 35 to earn medalist honors while Ryan Porter followed with a 40, Nick Ashby a 41 and Jack Kelly a 42.

The win pushes the Patriots to 11-1 on the year.

 

St. Anne’s volleyball beats Stuart Hall

St. Anne’s-Belfield volleyball beat Stuart Hall in a sweep Thursday night. The SAints won 25-15, 25-10 and 25-14.

Jill Galardo helped get the Saints there with an 8-point service run to take the lead in the second set while Sierra Smith and Ann Cathcart combined at the net to make things tough on Stuart Hall’s hitters. Sarah Bauer had a big night on defense for the Saints.

 

Albemarle volleyball falls to Massaponax

Albemarle volleyball fell 3-0 to Massaponax Wednesday night.

The Patriots’ Katie Schnell led the way with five kills while Emery Hawkins had three kills. Gabbi DeGennaro finished with three blocks while Danielle LaRosa had two stuffs. Setter sarah Hanssen notched 14 assists and Madison Warlick had seven digs.
