Cutright’s homer gives Louisa win in pitcher’s duel with Monticello

Monticello baseball’s pitching staff was locked in Thursday night. Luke Page and Greyson Herndon combined for eight innings of three-hit baseball.

Unfortunately for the Mustangs, Louisa County’s staff and Josh Cutright were also locked in.

In the bottom of the ninth, Cutright unleashed a leadoff homer to leftfield to break a deadlock created by a tremendous pitcher’s duel and lift Louisa to a 1-0 victory over the Mustangs.

Jacob Barber and Brent Wallace led the Louisa pitching effort, combining for eight innings with four innings each, with Barber striking out seven while not walking anyone. Wallace struck out two and walked a pair but allowed just a single hit.

Codey Batten closed out the effort for the Lions on the mound, needing just seven pitches to get out of the ninth.

Sean Karney and Barber each also had a hit for the Lions.

Cam Critzer posted a 2-for-3 night at the plate for the Mustangs and Ethan Roach went 1-for-2 for Monticello.

The Lions will look to keep things going when they travel Monday night to face Western Albemarle on the road at 6:30 p.m. while the Mustangs will get a break for a week before facing Charlottesville Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
