Covenant volleyball wins seventh straight

Covenant volleyball has been on a roll lately, and the Eagles kept things going this week with a 3-1 win over New Covenant to gain sole possession of first place in the Blue Ridge Conference while picking up their seventh-straight victory. 

 

The Eagles won the first two games 25-22, dropped game three 27-25 and then won a thriller of a game four 32-30. 

 

Freshman Cara Hamil continued her breakout campaign, exploding for 19 kills and 24 digs to lead the Covenant attack. Kerrigan Poindexter had seven kills and three aces and Delaney Poindexter had 24 digs while Katie Lowe chipped in five kills and three aces. 

 

Freshman London Constant finished with 37 assists at setter. 

 

The Eagles face Miller Tuesday at 5:30 in their next matchup. 

 

The win over New Covenant came on the heels of a pair of wins over the weekend at the Steward Invitational. The Eagles swept St. Margaret’s 3-0 and then beat host Steward 3-1, bouncing back from dropping game one 25-15 to win 26-24, 25-17 and 25-21. 

 

Hamil had 13 kills and 16 digs in the title game while Lowe also notched 13 kills (and had two aces) and Kerrigan Poindexter had nine. Delaney Poindexter finished with 20 digs and Constant had 36 assists while Peyton Garber had four aces.

 

In the semifinal sweep of St. Margaret’s, Hamil had 13 kills and six digs, Garber had six digs and four aces and Constant notched 26 assists. Kerrigran Poindexter and Lowe each had six kills.
