Covenant girls win back-to-back games

Covenant’s girls bsaketball team rolled on Monday and Tuesday nights, picking up a pair of blowout wins over Chatham Hall and New Covenant.

 

The Eagles, now the No. 5-ranked team in VISAA’s Division II, beat New Covenant 65-19 Tuesday night at home, jumping out to a 48-12 lead at halftime before closng the door in the second half, holding New Covenant to just seven points in the third and fourth quarter.

 

Delaney Poindexter posted a double double with 16 points and 10 steals while also grabbing five rebounds and dishing out three assists.  Kerrigan Poindexter finished with 15 points and seven steals while also finishing with four assists and three rebounds. Makayla Hargrove finished with 12 points. Reese Dalton had seven points, six steals and four rebounds. Katy Varaksa had five steals, five assists and six boards while Lina Tiouririne had four steals.

 

Covenant also crushed Chatham Hall 71-2 on the road Monday, holding Chatham Hall scoreless for the first three quarters of the game. Hargrove led the way in that one with 21 points, three steals, three assists and four boards.

 

Margaret Ann Graves and Tiouririne each had 10 points with Graves also notching five steals. Dalton finished with five boards, three assists and three steals to go with seven points. Varaksa managed three steals and four rebounds and CeCe Corbey had six points.

 

Delaney Poindexter had seven points, seven steals and seven assists and Kerrigan Poindexter had five steals.

 

The Eagles will look to keep things rolling Saturday at 5:30 on the road against Walsingham Academy.
